Cannabis Seeds in Nevada
While Las Vegas might be the most populous city in the state and a big tourist spot, Nevada has many other beautiful and wondrous attractions in addition to Sin City. The name Nevada comes from the Spanish word nieve meaning “snow-cappedâ€, as Nevada has more mountain ranges than any other state in the U.S. The Sierra Nevada mountain range runs about 400 miles north-south with widths ranging from 50 to 80 miles.
The vast majority of the Sierra lies in California although the Carson Range lies primarily in Nevada with the western slopes of the range forming the eastern shoreline of Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in the U.S. with steps over 1,645 feet. The Sierra is home to breathtaking waterfalls including Yosemite Falls, the tallest waterfall in the country and three national parks, Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia.
While the foothills of the Sierra are famous for the gold rush, Nevada is actually nicknamed the Silver State due to America’s largest silver deposit, the Comstock Lode, discovered in 1859. Gold, silver and casinos are not the only things spurring Nevada’s economy, legal medical use and adult, recreational use of cannabis generate tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue each year.
The Cannabis Compliance Board administers the medical marijuana program as well as adult use, recreational cannabis use in the state of Nevada.
Medical Marijuana Legal in Nevada
Even though voters approved legalizing medical marijuana in Nevada in 2000, legislation was not approved until 2013 to allow for licensed medical marijuana sales and the first medical cannabis dispensary didn’t open until 2015. Medical marijuana in Nevada helps people with many afflictions and people can request a medical marijuana application for cardholder Registry from the Division of Public and Behavioral Health.
Even though adult-use recreational marijuana was also recently legalized in Nevada, people between the ages of 18 and 20 are not allowed to buy recreational marijuana. If these young adults have a valid medical marijuana card, however, they can purchase medical cannabis legally and this also applies for out-of-state medical cannabis cards.
In some cases, a parent or guardian can act as a minor child’s primary caregiver when minors under the age of 18 must also qualify for the healing benefits of medical cannabis.
Recreational Marijuana Laws In Nevada
Shortly after legalizing recreational pot in Nevada, adult use marijuana sales generated $69.8 million in tax revenue during 2018, the first full year of adult use sales. This was 140% of projections and has only continued to grow.
Adult use cannabis sales for fiscal year ending 2019 was $424.9 million, $685 million in 2020, and according to a recent news article in October 2021, Nevada sales for recreational pot topped a whopping $1 billion in 2021. This allowed for the state to put $159 million into Nevada’s distributive school account for public education.
Since recreational cannabis was legalized and took effect January 1 of 2017, adults 21 years of age and older can purchase, possess, consume, and possibly cultivate up to six marijuana plants at a time. Adults are allowed to possess up to 1 ounce of cannabis flower, and up to 1/8 of an ounce of cannabis concentrate. Possession of a larger amount could result in a misdemeanor violation and a fine. Every state has laws and regulations regarding cannabis use and legalization, and Nevada may be one of the most weed friendly states we know. While you cannot legally light up hiking through the national forests, Cannabis consumption lounges may soon be opening in Nevada. And as reported in USA Today in 2019, Nevada was the first state to ban employers from refusing job applicants when failing a marijuana drug test. The list just keeps getting longer with all the good reasons to head to Nevada, check out the scenery, and cultivate some awesome cannabis plants.
The only way you can grow your own weed in Nevada, however, is if there is no state licensed retail cannabis store within 25 miles.
Growing Weed in Nevada
Nevada wants you to buy your pot from licensed dispensaries, although given the fact that Nevada is the most mountainous and driest state in the country, there are many rural dwellers that might have to travel quite a ways to find the closest dispensary. Accommodating for this, it is legal to grow up to six plants per person, no more than 12 per household, if you live more than 25 miles away from a state licensed retail cannabis store.
Keep in mind that growing more than 12 plants is considered a felony with jail time and thousands of dollars in fines. As long as you follow the rules, you can grow up to six plants that are not visible from a public place, they must be on your property or have permission from the property owner, and they must be in an enclosed area with a lock or secure device.
It’s not difficult to set up your own cannabis grow room with the right equipment and quality weed seeds. Keep your plants watered in the dry climate of Nevada and use only high-quality pot seeds from Mosca to make sure you get quality plants.
