LED grow lights are a smart investment into your indoor grow room, they provide vibrant lighting that are healthy for your plants and cost-efficient for your budget. With the many options out there it is easy to wonder what the best LED grow lights are for growing cannabis indoors. Mosca Seeds uses only NextLight LED lights for Optimum growth.
What are LED Grow Lights?
Light emitting diode (LED) grow lights are an energy-efficient artificial light that enhances natural cannabis seed and plant growth with waves of blue and red color. Blue light enhances the photosynthesis process and stimulates stronger roots while red light responds to the Phytochromes which are responsible for leafy growth. LED grow lights are unlike fluorescent lamps by using two different types of semiconductors, electrons that carry a negative charge and Holes which have a positive charge to create their light spectrum.
LED grow lights use these semiconductors to emit the light spectrum more efficiently than lamps that use a filament, mercury or lead to produce light.
Choose Full Spectrum LED Grow Lights
Different LED grow lights can emit different wavelengths of light depending on the spectrum pattern. Different wavelengths can stimulate plant growth at different stages. For example, one LED grow light might be perfect for the vegetative stage but not be as effective during the flowering stage. A full spectrum LED grow light, however, will adjust to the plant’s needs during different stages, therefore is effective throughout the entire plant life. Full spectrum LED lighting most closely resembles the light emitted from the sun and is beneficial to the cannabis plant which requires various stages of the light spectrum for healthy growth.
What is the PAR Value?
Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR) is the specific range of light that plants use for photosynthesis. The PAR value falls within the electromagnetic wavelengths of 400 to 700 nanometer (nm) and represents the amount of light that is usable to the plant. The PAR value directly affects the effectiveness of LED grow lighting, measured in µmol/m²/s, the number of micromoles of light per square meter per second or PPFD. Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density, PPFD, is a measurement of the number of photons that fall on a given surface per second. A good rule of thumb to use the right PAR value of lighting for your plant’s growth is:
200–400 µmol/m²/s: Low strength lighting ideal during the germination stage for clones and seedlings
400–600 µmol/m²/s: Medium strength lighting works well during the early vegetative stage
600 – 1000 µmol/m²/s: High strength lights that are best for the developing growth and flower stage
LED Grow Lighting Benefits
LED grow lighting provide many benefits over conventional High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lights such as:
- Eco-friendly – LED lights do not contain toxic substances and gases such as lead or mercury and are eco-friendly to recycle.
- Economical – LED grow lights use less heat and energy to produce more usable light than traditional lamps which saves on the electric bill.
- Efficient – LED lamps put off less heat than conventional lights and convert more energy into effective light emissions.
- Less heat – producing less heat than HID lamps, LED lamps are less likely to burn the leaves and damage plant development.
- Last longer – LED lamps have a longer lifespan than conventional lamps.
- Better results – with a natural lighting comparable to the sun, LED lamps result in a better crop by giving plants what they need during the growth process.
