Cannabinoids are the chemical compounds that are in a cannabis plant and affect the cannabinoid receptors in the body and brain. There are approximately 80 to 100 cannabinoids produced by a single cannabis plant, although the most well-known are tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). CBD is the cannabinoid thought to reduce anxiety and provide pain relief without psychoactive effects whereas THC is the cannabinoid that provides the high and relaxation many people want from smoking marijuana.
