Phytocannabinoids are naturally occurring chemical compounds found in cannabis plants and produced in the trichomes. These compounds interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system and produce various physiological, therapeutic, and psychotropic effects. Phytocannabinoids from the cannabis plant are responsible for the effects felt when consuming marijuana. The two most well-known phytocannabinoids are delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). Humans, plants, and animals produce their own cannabinoids, which are called endogenous cannabinoids.
