Humulene is one of the most common terpenes found in the cannabis plant, along with myrcene and caryophyllene. Humulene, also known as a-humulene or alpha humulene, is classified as a monocyclic sesquiterpene and is named after the Humulus lupulus, commonly known as the hops plant.

Both cannabis and hops are in the taxonomic family, Cannabaceae and humulene play an important role in delivering the plants’ aromatic earthy, woody and spice notes. Biomedical research on Humulene has shown therapeutic properties such as antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory benefits.
