The cannabis plant, also known as marijuana, is native to Central and South Asia although is cultivated worldwide and used for many medicinal and recreational purposes. The female cannabis plant produces an abundance of flowering buds which contain cannabinoids including tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). A tall, cane-like variety is harvested to produce hemp fiber, although most people think of smokable marijuana when talking about the cannabis plant.
