Heat cleaning is one of the easiest ways to deep clean a marijuana banger or nail to remove excess residual extract when dabbing. Dabbing will always leave some residue on the nail, but cleaning it will allow the nail to retain heat for longer periods of time, although extreme heat can leave quartz porous and degrade the quartz’s ability to retain heat. Dabbers usually just heat the nail with their torch in between dabs to burn away lingering residue and leave a clean, hot nail. This helps to prevent contaminants, debris, and oils to interfere with the crystallization process when dabbing.
Rosin will usually leave more residue than shatter because shatter has been dewaxed or winterized, which removes plant lipids, and rosin contains more plant material. Running a cotton swab after heating the banger can help to remove any remains, and in some cases, you can use a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to remove stubborn residue. Using a Q-tip in between dabs can help to keep the banger clean without degrading the quality and life of the nail.
