Defoliation refers to the removal of foliage, or leaves, from plants which is a technique many cannabis growers use to strategically prune and train cannabis plants for maximum yield. Defoliation can provide many benefits such as:

  • Increased light penetration
  • Increased airflow and CO2 absorption
  • Maximum yield with bigger colas
  • Less risk for pests

Defoliation hacks the natural process to produce bigger yields, although this must be done strategically and carefully and no sooner than week 3 to 4 of growth. All strains grow differently, although performing defoliation twice is usually enough in one plant’s growth cycle.
