Terpenes are naturally occurring chemical compounds in plants, a minor cannabinoid in the cannabis plant, that provide characteristics such as smell and taste. Terpenes are responsible for the appealing aroma from many various cannabis strains as well as smells of certain vegetation such as lavender, pine, or even a fresh orange peel. Terpenes work together with the cannabinoid content of the cannabis plant to bind to the cannabinoid receptors in the brain and produce the effects desired. This could explain why two different cannabis strains with the same THC level could produce different experiences.
