Anandamide was the first Indo cannabinoid to be discovered and named in 1992 by Raphael Mechoulam. Anandamide binds to primarily CB1, cannabinoid receptors in the central nervous system, and CB2 in the peripheral nervous system, which the cannabinoid THC acts on.
