Isopulegol is an aromatic terpene with a distinctive, fresh minty odor that is found naturally in the cannabis plant and other herbs such as lemongrass, geranium, eucalyptus, and mint. Isopulegol is a natural precursor for menthol and provides a natural defense against pests, and attracts pollinators.

Isopulegol is thought to provide therapeutic properties and is a major component of lemon balm, made from essential oils from the leaves of the Melissa officinalis L. (Lamiaceae). In a study published in 2013, Melissa officinalis, which contains 22% Isopulegol, was found to dramatically reduce swelling in animals showing anti-inflammatory properties. Another study from Germany found gastroprotective benefits in mice. Isopulegol also shows antiviral and antioxidant properties.
