With the legalization of recreational marijuana becoming a reality in states across the US, finding cannabis seeds for sale has never been easier! But if you’re new to growing and are looking to buy cannabis seeds, you may want to consider feminized autoflower seeds as a way to get started.

The Benefits of Feminized Autoflowering Seeds

Feminized seeds in general are more desirable for growers because they produce only female plants which result in smokable buds. When feminized seeds are combined with the ability to autoflower, it opens the door to some pretty awesome advantages.

Autoflowering cannabis seeds grow in a fraction of the time it takes photoperiod seeds to grow. While photoperiod plants can take several months before flowering, autoflowering plants can start to flower anywhere between 21-30 days after planting the seed (70-85 days total to harvest time, depending on the strain). If you want your plants to flower and produce buds as quickly as possible, feminized autoflowering seeds are your best bet.

Due to its genetic makeup, autoflowering seeds can flower without the necessity of a 12 hour light cycle to promote the flowering stage. This means they require less overall maintenance and saves you a lot of time.  Also, it allows you to have multiple genetics in one small space so they can all be on one light cycle.

The Drawbacks of Feminized Autoflowering Seeds

  1. They Produce Lower Yields 

Since autoflowering seeds produce smaller plants, it would only make sense that the buds produced are also smaller. If you’re growing for commercial purposes, this may not be the right choice for you, since volume and quantity are of the utmost importance in commercial growing.

However, if you’re growing for personal enjoyment, you should be able to get all the buds you need from feminized autoflowering seeds. And don’t forget, you can harvest several times throughout the year, which makes it easier to increase the amount of marijuana available to you.

  1. Slightly Higher Cost

Autoflowering seeds need more light than regular seeds so this will most likely raise your electricity bill each month. However, it’s important to realize that while your lighting costs are higher, your feeding costs are lower. That’s because these types of seeds require fewer nutrients.

  1. Cloning Is Not an Option

Unfortunately unlike photoperiod plants, you cannot clone autoflowering plants. This doesn’t allow you to continue to grow those exact strains that you fall in love with.  However autos are a great way to get started.
